Southtown San Antonio is getting a ‘famous’ fried chicken spot

San Antonio will soon join other major Texas cities in offering Gus’s Fried Chicken, the “world famous” chain with 31 locations dotting the U.S.

Dallas, Austin and Houston are all home to the Tennessee-based national chain known for hot and spicy fried chicken. San Antonio’s version is slated for 812 S. Alamo St. in Southtown.

A bright yellow sign touting the upcoming restaurant hangs near the entrance, but it’s unclear when locals will get a taste of the award-winning chicken. Corporate contacts for the chain were not immediately available to return requests for comment.

According to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the project was expected to be completed by September 2020.

If the Alamo City installment has a menu like the Austin location, fans can expect 2- to 3-piece fried chicken plates. They’ll have the option to pick from a list of classic slides like baked beans, potato salad, fried okra, mac and cheese and seasoned fries.

Mixtli, the progressive Mexican restaurant, is also opening soon and will neighbor Gus’s in the Southtown building across the street from Rosario’s.
