McAlister’s coming to Jasper – Dubois County Free Press

If all goes as planned, a McAlister’s Deli will open in a brand new 3,400 square foot building in front of Kohls and T.J. Maxx this October.

David Blackburn, CEO of Southern Rock Restaurants, the largest McAlister’s franchisee in the country, said he is looking forward to bringing the restaurant and its famous McAlister’s Sweet Tea to Jasper. The fast-casual restaurant chain features sandwiches, soups, salads, spuds, and more on a menu that can be ordered from online, on an app, or in person.

Blackburn’s Tennessee-based company owns and operates 93 McAlister’s Deli restaurants in Tennessee, Mississippi, Missouri, Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana. He has plans to have 97 locations by the end of the year.

Blackburn said he became interested in Jasper due to his area director Steven Birge, who lives in Jasper. “We’ve been very successful in Vincennes and Bedford and we kept our eyes open for the right spot (to expand) and this opportunity came about,” he said.

Regency Properties, the owner of Germantown Shopping Center, plans on building the building shell and Blackburn’s company will finish it.

“I am so excited to build a brand new space,” Blackburn said. “We’ll finish the shell and outfit the inside and have quite a large investment there.”

Blackburn said the restaurant will seat about 120 patrons inside and feature a small patio. It will have a pick-up window for patrons who call ahead or order online or on the app to drive up for pick up. Inside a cabinet will be set up for pickups as well. “And of course you can come in and order and have a glass of our famous iced tea while you wait,” he said.

Blackburn started in the restaurant industry as a busboy when he was 15 years and has been involved ever since. He purchased his first McAlister’s franchise about 10 years ago. He said the most exciting part of his job is the opening of new locations.

“I spent four or five days at every opening,” he said. “Really, it’s the most fun you ever have in this business. Seeing brand new people completely fired up and excited.”

McAlister’s Deli in Jasper should open within the first two weeks of October.
